Food Programs
As a licensed provider you also get the added perk of getting paid by the State for meal reimbursements. They send you a check on a monthly basis for a certain percentage of the money you paid for your daycare meals. This may differ from state to state, you must check with your Local Child Care Licensing agency. A Food program representative comes out to your house and signs you up with their program. That person will instruct you on the various methods of feeding the children and meal spacing and food preparation and personal hygiene and sanitation. They go over all of the information with you and leave handouts with you and meal and snack ideas. They teach you how to record the dates and times the children are in your daycare and what meals they ate.
This is a very important part of your paperwork as if it is not filled out properly you will not get paid. This paperwork is also viewed by the State Licensing agencies to make sure the Food program reps are teaching you the right procedures too. So, it is a big team effort on everyone's part, but it is worth it. The children are fed nutritious meals, which makes them happy, and the parents are thrilled their children get a wide variety of healthy food. This also keeps the Food program reps happy and the State and you get a paycheck for your hard work and those yummy recipes! Contact your local Community Care Licensing Agency and they will give you a contact number or pamphlet for further information.
