Working At Home

For me the biggest benefit to working at home was to be with my kids. I had five of my own and I really couldn't afford outside daycare. I also was a single mom and believe me I totally empathized with the financial struggles that families were faced with. Also, being licensed gave me a more professional view of my business. I no longer looked at it as a “babysitting job”, like in the past, I knew this was something to be proud of.

If you are considering this as a job, there are many benefits. You can take phone calls from your own child's school if they become ill or something happens. You are able to be there when your own children leave for school and come home too. You can throw in that extra load of laundry during their nap time instead of that mad rush when most moms come home from a long day's work and still have to do laundry and fix dinner. Or during their nap time you can prepare your family's dinner and stick it in the fridge and when work is over just pop it in the oven. Don't forget there is no commute to hassle with. I truly appreciated this factor. You get to wear comfortable clothes that don't break your bank account, and there is no competing to dress “the best”.

One of the biggest benefits also is, you are your own boss. You decide your work hours and you set your rate and you design your own contract. Of course this isn't a “desk” job, and this requires much love and patience and there are compromises, but that is with every job. This isn't for everybody but if it sounds good to you and it fits your lifestyle it can be a wonderful career. I raised my family of six on the small (6-8) group size. It fit my situation and my family best. We had tough times as a one parent income household but the fact that I was there at home made those difficult times so much easier to handle.
